What is Derby International Film Festival?

Derby International Film Festival is a celebration of independent cinema, bringing together filmmakers, audiences, and industry professionals for a day dedicated to great storytelling. Proudly based in Derby, we’re creating a festival where local talent shares the screen with films from around the world, united by one thing: exceptional filmmaking.

More than just a series of screenings, DIFF is a place to discover new voices, take part in conversations with filmmakers, build meaningful connections, and celebrate the power of cinema together.

Our inaugural festival takes place on 4 September at Derby Theatre, bringing together filmmakers and audiences for a day of independent cinema. Alongside a programme of carefully selected films, the festival will feature filmmaker Q&As, industry panels, and networking opportunities designed to spark conversations and create lasting connections.

This is our first chapter, and we’re excited to begin building a festival that grows with Derby, welcomes filmmakers from around the world, and celebrates outstanding cinema for years to come.
